A brief synopsis of events for the last year (most recent first) are as follows: Thursday 19th January 2012 Committee Meeting. Sub Groups will define actions for the year and make proposals at the next meeting. Electricity and Banking suppliers will be changed. Monday 2nd January 2012 American Tournament - Mark Belcher won for Team 1, and Jan Belcher, David Spence and Caroline Marshall all won for Team 2. The mulled wine and mince pies were good as well. The weather a bit cold and a bit wet, but a good time was had. Detailed results available from the rules page. Wednesday 21st December 2011 Junior Xmas party, thanks to the dry mild weather the juniors were able to have a good session of tennis ahead of a team quiz and carol singing in the clubhouse. Natasha and Jack (G) were presented with the most improved junior players of the year. Tuesday 20th December 2011 Minis Xmas party held for 17 very excited youngsters looking forward to Santa's visit. Josh (S) and Lola were present with trophies for the most improved mini players of the year. Saturday 17th December 2011 12U team of Sam G. Adam and Toby achieved a good win away at Rodway, ending the year with both our 12u and 16u teams so far unbeaten in the winter league. Thursday 17th November 2011 Annual General Meeting. 26 members present. Committee re-elected, and all reports received. A planning application will be submitted for Court 4 lighting, but will not be progressed (yet) if approval is granted. Saturday 5th November 2011 American Tournament was played by 20 members. Congrats to Maciek Kawecki who won for the men (runner up David Spence) and to Ann Mora for the ladies (runner up Jan Belcher). Superb Baked Potatoes and beans helped to replace all the calories burnt in the tournament! Detailed results are available on the rules page. Thursday 20th October 2011 Committee Meeting. Budgets going well. Floodlight situation for Court 4 now well informed. Coaching going well. £382.75 raised for Kitchen fund so far. Preparations for AGM discussed. Saturday 17th September 2011 Club Finals Day. An excellent day if a little showery. Full results now on the Competitions page. If anyone has any photos that we can publish, please forward them to me (See contacts page). Thursday 8th September 2011 Committee Meeting. Desk and Chair will be supplied to replace broken table. Court 4 lighting will be investigated further re planning, costs and likely usage. Finals day will have sandwiches and cakes available (not free!) and will host the kitchen opening. Further details will be added to web site to aide others finding the club. (See Contact page). Monday 29th August 2011 American Tournament was played by 34 members. Tea and Scones (with jam and cream no less!) was also enjoyed. Well done to Pete Hayden, the men's winner and Caroline Marshall, the ladies winner. Detailed results available via the Rules page. Friday 19th August 2011 A team of 8 from the tennis club entered the Ridings Association Golf competition held at Chipping Sodbury Golf Club. On a day perfect for golf the team of Pete, Rob,Gill, Vic, Andrew J, Steve, Andy H and Lewis defied the difficult course to record a splendid score of 122 points- 5 ahead of their nearest rivals. After the match the trophy was presented to Pete and all the players enjoyed a curry and a well deserved drink at the golf club. Look out for the trophy behind the bar!" Thursday 28th July 2011 Committee Meeting. Specific budgets requested. New court fund on track for when new courts are required. Social event deemed a success - raised £166 for new kitchen which incidentally, was also deemed a success! Tennis going well too. Saturday 23rd July 2011 Summer Social was held. Excellent bread, cheese and chutneys. Music and dancing. Raffle and dress compo. Well done to the Social committee. Saturday 16th July 2011 Coffee and cake morning held in support of Hospice SW, our chosen charity for this year. £54 was raised. Saturday 11th June 2011 Open Afternoon held. The club was buzzing during Saturday afternoon with a mixed range of tennis activities on display. Mini and Junior coaching with Gary and Sally was enjoyed by both members and visitors. An AEGON division 1 16U doubles match versus Bishop Sutton was in progress. Fun for all tennis on remaining courts. Hopefully a few new members were attracted. Friday 27th May 2011 American Tournament with Fish & Chip supper. 22 members played three rounds over four 20 minute sessions. Ashley Todd and Stan Morrison Jones won for Team 1, and Caroline Marshall won for Team 2. Detailed results are available from the rules page. Thursday 19th May 2011 Committee Meeting. Budget discussed and new kitchen approved. Grass cutting will be by voluntary rota. Car park will be covered to make a better surface. Internet banking trial deemed successful and viable for mass adoption. Social events discussed and confirmed. Monday 25th April 2011 24 members played an American Tournament and raised £106 for this years charity (Children's Hospice South West) in the process. This was the first American Tournament under the new 'Timed Tennis' rules which seemed to be preferred. Well done to the Men's winner Pete Hayden, and the Ladies winner, Caroline Kawecki. Detailed results are available from the 'Rules' page of this web site. Thursday 7th April 2011. Committee Meeting. Payment of subs will be by Bank Transfer - but not yet - to be trialled and ironed out. Finances checked, Working party held. Tennis going well. Events confirmed. (Listed above). Sunday 27th March 2011. Vets team win Winter League and gain promotion for a second year! Team: Rob and Caroline Marshall, Maciek and Caroline Kawecki, Pete Hayden and Jane Chorley. Sunday 13th March 2011 Sam Godden wins Lansdown Green ball tournament. Thursday 24th February 2011 Committee Meeting. dates fixed for American Tournaments, and other social events. (See above.) Budget in hand, and Coaching programme discussed. Saturday 5th February 2011 - The BALL. 79 Members, ex members and guests attended and had a BALL! The meal was fantastic, (but the music was too loud!!). Maybe I'm getting too old! It was a great success though and some surplus money was passed to St Peters Hospice. An excellent evening was had by all, good food, chat and dancing. Saturday 29th January 2011 A day for very close matches. The
10's greenball team (Adam, Sam and Katie) played at home to
Almondsbury. 3 out of the 4matches went to 3 sets with Sodbury
coming out on top with an 8-3 win. The 12U team, (Chris,
Edward and James) all playing in their first match, also had some
good games, playing away at Almondsbury. Both teams won and lost one
singles and one doubles match, the score was tied 4-4 Saturday 5th February 2011 The 12U team (Chris, Edward
and Oliver) played at home to Bishop Sutton. Battling the gale force
winds, Chris continued his winning ways in a very long tough singles
match, gaining the 2 points of and 2-8 loss for Sodbury.
The U16 first team (Jack B, Matt and
Ben had a good win away at Rodway Hill, whilst the 10U team (Sam,
Katie and Dylan) were disappointed that Almondsbury could only turn
out one player, but nevertheless the spectators were treated to a
very close match between Thursday 20th January 2011 Committee Meeting held. Sub Groups now exist for Tennis and Development (Kathy, Sally, Steve, and Gary), Budget and Finance (Di, Pete, and Andrew J, Club and Facilities (Mark, Rob, Stan and Andrew M), and Social and Fund Raising (Jan, Sarah and Janet.) Each group has subjects to investigate and progress. Full minutes will be posted in the clubhouse lounge. Dates set for all future committee meetings this year, plus AGM, and club finals day (all listed above.) John will continue to assist with American Tournaments, and maintaining this web site. |
